Okay, for those who still confused between Manga and Anime, let's see some description below.
AnimeAnime (アニメ an abbreviated Japanese pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, but typically pronounced /ˈænɪmeɪ/ or /ˈænɪmə/ in English) refers to Animation in Japan or often called "Japanese Animation". Anime originated about 1917. Anime, like manga, is extremely popular in Japan and well known throughout the world. Both hand-drawn and computer animated anime exist. It is used in television series, films, video, video games, commercials, and internet-based releases, and represents most, if not all, genres of fiction. Japanese write the English term "animation" in katakana as アニメーション (animēshon, pronounced [animeːɕoɴ]), and the term anime (アニメ) emerged in the 1970s as an abbreviation, though some state that the word derives from the French phrase dessin animé. Both the original and abbreviated forms are valid and interchangeable in Japanese, but the shorter form is more commonly used. In shorter words, Anime would refers to Animation movie or film originated from Japan. In that case, any other animation work from western country wouldn't be considered as an Anime.
MangaManga (in kanji 漫画; in hiragana まんが; in katakana マンガ; (English: /ˈmɑːŋɡə/) ) are comics and print cartoons (sometimes also called komikku コミック?), in the Japanese language and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 20th century. In their modern form, manga date from shortly after World War II, but they have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art. In general, the word Manga would refer to Japanese comics only. But nowadays, any other comics are also called Manga like Taiwan in ("manhua"), South Korea ("manhwa"), and the People's Republic of China, notably Hong Kong ("manhua").] In France, "la nouvelle manga" has developed as a form of bande dessinée drawn in styles influenced by Japanese manga. In the U.S., people refer to manga-like comics as Amerimanga, world manga, or original English-language manga (OEL manga).
Some popular Manga category are described below.
- Seinen manga (青年漫画) - Manga generally intended for 18–30 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some comics aimed at businessmen well into their 40s. It has a wide variety of art styles and more variation in subject matter, ranging from the avant-garde to the pornographic. In Japanese, the word Seinen means "young man" or "young men" and is not suggestive of sexual matters.
- Shōnen manga (少年漫画) - Manga with a target demographic of young boys generally between the ages of about 10 and 18. Shōnen (少年) manga (漫画) is typically characterized by high-action, often humorous plots featuring male protagonists. The camaraderie between boys or men on sports teams, fighting squads and the like is often emphasized. Attractive female characters with exaggerated features are also common, but are not a requirement; Dragon Ball Z, for example, has only a few such characters. The art style of shōnen is generally less flowery than that of shōjo manga, although this varies greatly from artist to artist, and some artists draw both shōnen and shōjo manga.
- Kodomomuke manga (子供向け漫画) and the similar term, kodomomuke anime (子供向けアニメ), are Japanese terms which literally mean "manga (or "anime", respectively) directed towards children". "Kodomo" works are noted for stories that are often very moralistic, teaching children how to behave as good and considerate people. The episodes are generally standalone and non-episodic in order to appeal to a child's short attention span.
- Shōjo, shojo, or shoujo manga (少女漫画, shōjo manga) - Manga for female audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18. The name romanizes the Japanese 少女 (shōjo), literally "young girl". As shōjo literally means "girl" in Japanese, the equivalent of the western usage will generally include the medium: girls' manga (少女漫画 shōjo manga), or anime for girls (少女向けアニメ shōjo-muke anime).
- Josei manga (女性, literally "woman," pronounced [dʑosei]), also known as "ladies" (レディース) or "ladies' comics" (レディコミ), is a term that refers to the target demographic of manga created mostly by women for late teenage and adult female audiences. The male equivalent to josei is seinen. In Japanese, the word josei means simply "female" and has no manga-related connotations at all.
TokusatsuLiterally, Tokustatsu would means "Special Effects". And so this terms usually used within a movie or film that include a superhero theme like Google V, Gaban, etc. Some Monster-related movies are also considered as Tokusatsu like Godzilla. But in general terms, Tokusatsu is used to define a movie or film, usually a mecha(Robot)-themed movie or Super Hero-themed movie.
HentaiIn short words, Hentai would refers to an adult-themed Manga, Anime, or other Art works. In Japanese the word hentai is a kanji compound of 変 (hen meaning "change" "weird" or "strange") and 態 (tai meaning "attitude" or "appearance"). The term is used as a shortened form of the phrase 変態性欲 (hentai seiyoku), or "sexual perversion". In slang, 変態 (hentai) is used as an insult meaning roughly "pervert" or "weirdo". The term is not often applied to pornography in Japan. Instead, terms such as 18-kin (18禁, literally "18-prohibited") meaning "prohibited to those not yet 18 years old", and seijin manga (成人漫画 "adult manga") are used when referring to pornography. The English letters AV are also used, standing for adult video.
